NEW SCOUT BASIC NEEDS

Congratulations and welcome to the Pack/Troop/Crew! Now that you've joined the Pack/Troop/Crew, you are likely asking "what do I need to do to get started?" Scouting is a very inexpensive activity for your family to be involved in.   Below are items you will want to consider as you begin. We hope you have a wonderful time with your son throughout his time in Scouting!

 

Check with your Cubmaster/Scoutmaster/Crew Advisor to find out how your unit handles the items below.

Yearly Registration Fee and Other Costs

  • The yearly registration fee of the National Scouting America, located in Irving, Texas. Click HERE to view the fees.

  • Insurance: $2.00

  • Unit Dues - The amount varies by unit.  Some unit charge annual dues that include BSA yearly registration fee.  Each unit has its own process for handling advancement and activity costs.  Some include the costs in their annual dues, some raise the funds by product sales, and some have families that cover the cost of the specific activities in which they participate. Check with your unit leader to get a breakdown of the annual fees.

Handbooks

Every Scout needs a handbook.  They are specific to their unit and grade level.  Check with Middle Tennessee Council Scout Shops for prices.

Uniform

The uniform and its’ cost vary by program for both youth and adult. Every unit has a standard for uniforms.  Please consult with your unit leader for more information.
