Chainsaw Safety Certification
Operating a chain saw is inherently hazardous. Proper maintenance, personal protective equipment, and correct technique are critical components of safe chain saw operation. Potential injuries can be minimized by using proper personal protective equipment and safe operating procedures. The Council's properties rely on chain saws to help clear trails, remove deadfalls, clear timber, and stockpile wood for campfires and heating buildings.

Introduction to Leadership Skills for Troops
The purpose of the Introduction to Leadership Skills for Troops(ILST) course is to teach Scouts with leadership positions about their new roles and how to most effectively reach success in that role. It is intended to help Scouts in leadership positions within their troop understand their responsibilities and to equip them with organizational and leadership skills to fulfill those responsibilities. ILST is the first course in the series of leadership training offered to Scouts and is a replacement for Troop Leadership Training. Completion of ILST is a prerequisite for Scouts to participate in the more advanced leadership courses National Youth Leadership Training (NYLT) and the National Advanced Youth Leadership Experience (NAYLE).

Climbing and Rappelling Training
Climbing Instructor Level I/II
Rock climbing is a quickly growing sport. Many of your scouts likely have been indoor climbing at one of the many local climbing gyms in our area. Most of them though likely have not had the opportunity to rappel off a 160' cliff. This (or perhaps a slightly less challenging opportunities) can build a huge amount of confidence and excitement in your scouts and even your adult leaders.
The Council Cope and Climbing Committee provides a unit level training program for climbing and rappelling. The program requires two weekends to complete. At the end of the first weekend you will qualify to receive your Climbing Instructor Level I trained card (valid 1 year). Then coming to a second session and helping provide instruction, and exhibiting proficiency in the taught skills, will qualify you to receive your Climbing Instructor Level II card (valid 3 years).
Locations include Boxwell Scout Reservation and Latimer Rerservation.
